THE SIGNAL PROFILE

Ten minutes.
Your architecture at the end.

The SIGNAL Profile is the diagnostic entry point to the Method. Thirty questions produce a personalized reading of your current amplitude across the seven layers, and a specific recommendation for where to invest first.
WHAT THE PROFILE IS

The SIGNAL Profile is not a test. There are no right answers, no rankings, no comparisons to other people. It is a diagnostic instrument.

Most communication assessments are evaluative. They score you on a scale, compare you to a benchmark, and produce a result that ranks you against other test-takers. The result is often a category, communicator type A, communicator style B, that describes what kind of communicator you are, statically.

The SIGNAL Profile is different by design. It does not rank. It does not categorize. It does not compare.

What it produces is a map, a specific reading of where your current communication system sits, across the seven layers of the Method. The map shows which layers are developed and which are emerging. It identifies the specific layer where investment will produce the largest compound return given your current amplitudes. It gives you an operating starting point for the practice, not a fixed identity.

The Profile is diagnostic because it reads your system as it is right now. It is not psychological, it does not attempt to describe who you are as a person. It is architectural, it describes what your communication system is currently producing, and what layer of that system will most benefit from deliberate development.

The map is designed to be re-taken. A Profile taken today reflects your current amplitudes. A Profile taken a year from now, after a year of deliberate practice in the layer identified as the largest compound return, will show different amplitudes. The map is not permanent. It is a snapshot of a system that changes as the practice changes.

WHAT THE PROFILE PRODUCES

Three things arrive at the end. Amplitude readings across the seven layers. A personalized waveform. A specific next investment.

The Profile produces three specific outputs.

Amplitude readings across the seven layers. Each of the seven layers, Self, Intent, Grasp, Narrative, Alignment, Legacy, Modern Edge, receives one of two amplitude descriptors: developed or emerging. Developed indicates a layer that is currently a strength; the recommended action for developed layers is refinement rather than foundational investment. Emerging indicates a layer that is in-progress; the recommended action for emerging layers is targeted investment to consolidate the capacity. Every reader receives seven amplitude readings, one per layer.

A personalized waveform. The seven amplitude readings render as a single visualization, your personal SIGNAL waveform. The waveform shows the specific shape of your current communication system across the seven layers, moving from the pre-signal state on the left through the internal foundation, outward craft, and enduring influence groupings, with Modern Edge as a subtle overlay across the arc. Your waveform is not a score. It is a diagnostic image, a shape you can look at, remember, and return to over time. Two readers with similar amplitudes will have similar-shaped waveforms; the shape reflects the pattern of amplitudes, not a ranked position.

A specific next investment. Beyond the amplitude readings and the waveform, the Profile identifies one specific layer where investment will produce the largest compound return given your current amplitudes. This is not seven recommendations. It is one. The next layer to develop, named specifically, with a brief description of what that layer's practice looks like operationally and, for layers with launch-inventory Daily Reps, which Daily Rep to install for ninety days.

The three outputs work together. The amplitude readings show where you stand. The waveform shows the shape of where you stand. The next-investment recommendation shows what to do about it. A reader who has taken the Profile leaves with a map, a picture, and a next step.

HOW THE PROFILE WORKS

Thirty questions. Ten minutes. The questions read your current amplitude by observing how you describe your actual communication practice, not by asking you to rate yourself.

The Profile consists of thirty questions. Each question presents a specific communication situation and asks how you typically operate in it. The questions are behavioral, not evaluative. They do not ask how would you rate your ability to. They ask when you do X, you typically, and offer response options that reflect different underlying amplitude patterns across the seven layers.

Every answer is legitimate. There are no wrong answers because the Profile is not a test. There are only answers that produce different amplitude readings. A response that indicates emerging amplitude in a specific layer is not a bad response, it is information about where investment will produce the most compound return.

The questions are calibrated to produce accurate readings across the seven layers, including Modern Edge. Different questions read different layers; some questions read multiple layers simultaneously. What matters for the reader is that answering honestly produces an accurate reading, and that accuracy, not desirability, is what the reader wants.

The Profile takes ten minutes to complete for most readers. Some readers take fifteen. A few take twenty. Longer completion times reflect deliberate consideration of answers, not slower thinking. The instrument does not time you.

The Profile can be paused and resumed. Your progress is saved. You can return to complete it later without losing your prior answers.

The Profile is confidential. Your responses and your resulting Profile are visible only to you. No aggregated data is used for external purposes without explicit consent. What SIGNAL learns from Profile completions in aggregate, the distribution of amplitude patterns across the reader base, is used only to improve the instrument's calibration over time.

HOW TO USE YOUR PROFILE

The Profile is not the destination. It is the operating starting point. Use it to invest in one layer, then return to update the map.

A completed Profile produces useful action when the reader treats it as a diagnostic to act on, not as a description to admire.

First, read the amplitude readings honestly. Some readings will confirm what you suspected. Others will surprise you. Both kinds of readings are useful. The surprising readings often point to layers you have been under-attending to, the layers where investment will change your communication most.

Second, look at the waveform. The shape carries information beyond the individual amplitudes. Which parts of the arc are peaked? Which are shallow? Are your peaks in internal foundation (Self, Intent, Grasp), in outward craft (Narrative, Alignment), or in enduring influence (Legacy)? Does Modern Edge overlay well across your other amplitudes, or does it drag against them? The shape as a whole diagnoses the current pattern of your communication system, not just the individual layer readings.

Third, invest in the layer the Profile identifies as the largest compound return. Not two layers. Not four. One. The recommendation is calibrated to your specific pattern of amplitudes. It reflects the layer where practice will produce the most downstream change given where you currently stand. Investing in a different layer than the one identified is legitimate, some readers have reasons to prioritize differently, but the recommended layer is where the compound return is largest.

Fourth, install the practice for ninety days. For layers with launch-inventory Daily Reps (Legacy, the Daily Output Rep and Daily Durability Rep; Alignment, the Daily Consequence Rep), the Rep is the specific practice to install. For layers whose Daily Reps are on the curriculum roadmap (Self, Intent, Grasp, Narrative, Modern Edge), the layer subpage describes ambient practices that can be installed as effective substitutes until the locked Rep is released. Ninety days is the minimum window for the compound curve to become visible to the person doing the practice.

Fifth, return to the Profile after ninety days, six months, or a year of practice. Retake it. Your amplitudes will have changed. Your waveform will show the change. The next-investment recommendation will identify the next layer to develop. The Profile is designed for cycles: take it, invest, return, retake.

Across three to five years of these cycles, a communicator moves from the amplitude pattern they started with to a substantially different pattern. Not by taking the Profile repeatedly. By using each Profile reading to invest deliberately in the layer where investment produces the largest compound return.

WHAT THE PROFILE IS NOT

The Profile is a diagnostic, not a diagnosis. It reads a system, not a person.

Because SIGNAL is a method for developing communication capacity, the Profile is sometimes mistaken for adjacent kinds of instruments it is not.

The Profile is not a personality assessment. It does not describe who you are. It does not sort you into a type. It does not tell you your communication style archetype. It reads the current amplitude of your communication system across seven specific layers. Different persons with similar communication systems will produce similar Profiles. The same person, a year apart, may produce different Profiles as their practice changes.

The Profile is not a competence measure. It does not tell you how good a communicator you are relative to some benchmark. It does not compare you to other Profile takers. It does not produce a percentile. Every reader's Profile is a map of their current system, not a ranking against anyone else's.

The Profile is not permanent. Nothing on it is fixed. Every amplitude reading reflects the reader's current system at the moment of taking the Profile. Practice changes the system. A subsequent Profile will show the change.

The Profile is not a substitute for the practice. Taking the Profile is not practicing the Method. The Profile produces a starting point. What happens next, the investment in the identified layer, the ninety-day protection of a Daily Rep or ambient practice, the return cycles, is the practice.

The Profile is not diagnostic of your worth as a person. This should not need saying and it does need saying. An emerging reading in a layer does not mean you are a bad communicator. It means your current system is not yet developed in that layer, which is information you can act on. The Profile is architectural. It is not moral.

RETURNING TO YOUR PROFILE

Your Profile persists. You can return to it, retake it, and see how your amplitudes change over time.

Once you have completed the Profile, your results remain available. You can return to view your amplitude readings, your waveform, and your next-investment recommendation whenever you need to reference them.

Some readers return to their Profile weekly during the ninety-day investment window, as an anchor for the practice they are running. Others return quarterly to check whether the current layer of investment still feels correct. Others retake the Profile annually to update the map after a year of practice.

Retakes. You can retake the Profile at any time. Retakes are recommended after ninety days of deliberate practice, six months, or a year. Retaking more frequently than every ninety days will not produce meaningful change in the readings, the compound curve of practice needs at least ninety days to produce visible amplitude change.

Change over time. Your prior Profiles remain viewable. You can compare a Profile taken today against Profiles taken six months ago, a year ago, or when you first began. The comparison shows the trajectory of your practice, which layers have shifted, which have held stable, which have peaked, which are next.

The Profile is designed to accompany the practice across a career. A communicator who takes the Profile at year one and again at year five will produce two different maps. The maps are not measurements of the same static thing. They are readings of a system that changes as the practice changes it.

Ready when you are. Ten minutes. Thirty questions. Your architecture at the end.

The SIGNAL Profile produces the map you need to begin the practice deliberately. It reads your current communication system, shows you where you stand, and identifies where investment will produce the most compound return.

If you have read the Method architecture and you know where to begin, take the Profile. If you have not read the Method architecture, taking the Profile first is still a legitimate entry point, the Profile will orient you to the seven layers, and you can return to the layer subpages after receiving your results.

Both paths converge. The Profile without the Method is a diagnosis without treatment. The Method without the Profile is a map without a marked location.
